Fighting Words

In 2005, FightSMA created a program called “Fighter Mom,” to encourage and equip “mothers and others” to fight any health issues facing their children. This was a printed binder, chocked full of practical strategies and tactics based on the experiences of families involved in the fight against spinal muscular atrophy.

This year, FightSMA is launching its Fighter Mom program into “the cloud.” Now, instead of being provided on paper, it’s being distributed on the Internet, through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, our website and email blasts. It’s been renamed “Fighting Words.” We hope it’s useful, comforting, and even inspiring. As one of its creators, Martha Slay, said in a media interview: “These are tools, but we hope they will also be sparks.”
